Steps to get a New York City Taxi Hack License
Requirements
  • Be at least 19 years of age
  • Be a legal resident of the United States:
    • U.S Passport, or
    • Birth certificate, or
    • Green Card
    • Work permit
  • Driver's license or equivalent (A, B, C or E)
  • Social Security Card
Documents
  • Complete 6 Hours DMV certified defensive driving class no more than 6 months before filing the application
  • Notarized Child Support Certification form from the NYC Office of Child Support Enforcement, form can be obtained within TLC location.
  • Signed medical history form by a doctor proofing eligibility to drive a cab
  • Money orders:
    • $120 payable to N.Y.C. TLC
    • $75 payable to N.Y.C. TLC/DCJS
    • $25.50 payable to LabCorp

Taking class
Before taking the exam, drivers are required to attend a TLC Licensed Taxi School:
  • 24Hr Class: cost $105, brief and less expenssive, or
  • 80Hr Class: cost $325, Very well explained and high chance to pass Exam
Driver needs to learn the following subjects:
  • Manhattan, Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn, and Staten Island Geography
  • Map Reading
  • Tunnels, Bridges, and Highways
  • TLC Rules and regulations
Note: Some schools offer days and nights classes
Passing TLC Exam, what do you need to know?
- Students will have the chance to practice TLC Style Exam in school
- Examiners must pass the English Test to qualify
- Failing in two test exams cause the examinee to repeat the process of a new applicaton.
- Exam cost $25
- Exam can be passed in a Taxi school and supervised by TLC Staff
